Remainy Privacy Policy

Effective July 29, 2026 · Applies to Remainy 1.0 for macOS

Remainy is an independent macOS utility published by Makepad. It displays Codex usage information for a ChatGPT account. Remainy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI.

Summary

Makepad does not operate a server for Remainy. The app contains no advertising SDK or Makepad analytics SDK, and optional Codex analytics and telemetry export are disabled. Makepad does not receive your ChatGPT credentials or usage information, sell personal information, or use app data to track you across apps or websites.

Remainy connects directly from your Mac to OpenAI through a bundled OpenAI Codex runtime. OpenAI independently processes those requests under the OpenAI Privacy Policy.

Information processed

To sign you in and display usage, Remainy and its bundled Codex runtime process:

  • Your ChatGPT account email address, account type, and plan name
  • Account and session identifiers and authentication credentials
  • Device and runtime metadata plus service-security identifiers returned by OpenAI or its infrastructure provider
  • Codex usage-limit percentages and reset times
  • Authentication and refresh status
  • Service metadata needed for the Codex session, such as the available model catalog

The Codex runtime handles the one-time device authorization code and authentication credentials. Remainy does not display authentication credentials or intentionally write them to its logs. None of this information is sent to Makepad.

OpenAI processing

Authentication, account, usage, and supporting Codex service requests go directly from your Mac to OpenAI. OpenAI may receive account information, account and device identifiers, service-security cookies, network information such as your IP address, an IP-derived general location, product-interaction and service-log information, and request metadata. OpenAI controls its own processing, retention, security, and deletion practices as described in the OpenAI Privacy Policy.

OpenAI states that, in certain markets and depending on account choices, it may use and share limited identifiers and basic commercial or browsing information with marketing partners to promote OpenAI on third-party properties. OpenAI says this can qualify as targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising under some U.S. state laws. Remainy and Makepad do not control that processing. OpenAI describes the information and its Marketing Privacy control in How We Promote OpenAI on Third-Party Properties.

Remainy disables the Codex runtime's optional analytics and OpenTelemetry export, feedback submission, update checks, plugins and apps, and remote-control capability. The runtime still makes the authenticated OpenAI requests required to sign in and retrieve account, usage, and supporting service information.

Choosing Usage Dashboard opens an OpenAI webpage in your default browser. Activity on that website is governed by OpenAI's policies and your browser settings.

Information stored on your Mac

In Remainy's shipped configuration, the Codex runtime stores its managed session in a file readable only by the app inside Remainy's private App Sandbox container. The session file is not additionally encrypted by Remainy and the default configuration does not store it in the macOS Keychain. Remainy also stores preferences and a small cached usage snapshot locally.

The snapshot shared with the macOS system control contains only:

  • The current state, such as signed in, signed out, or unavailable
  • The minimum remaining usage percentage
  • The time the usage was refreshed

The shared snapshot does not contain your email address, plan name, device authorization code, or authentication credentials.

The optional Sample Data preview uses fictional values and makes no authentication or usage request. Its separately marked system-control snapshot expires after no more than 30 minutes and is removed when you exit the preview or quit Remainy. It never replaces a genuine usage snapshot.

Remainy may keep local diagnostic output to recover from runtime errors. Diagnostics are not automatically transmitted to Makepad.

Retention and deletion

The cached usage snapshot is replaced when usage refreshes. Choosing Sign Out asks the Codex runtime to end the session managed by Remainy and replaces the shared snapshot with a signed-out state.

Sign out before deleting Remainy if you want the app to request server-side revocation and remove its managed session file first.

Makepad has no Remainy account database or app-usage database to delete because Remainy does not send this information to Makepad. Requests concerning information held by OpenAI must be directed to OpenAI using the options described in its privacy policy.

Sharing, sale, and tracking

Makepad does not sell or rent personal information, share it with data brokers, use it for targeted advertising, or track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

Information is disclosed to OpenAI only through the direct service requests needed to authenticate your account, retrieve account and usage information, open the optional usage dashboard, and support the bundled Codex runtime session.

OpenAI may separately disclose limited information to its own marketing partners as described under OpenAI processing above. Makepad does not receive that information or choose OpenAI's marketing partners.

Security

Remainy uses the macOS App Sandbox and requests outgoing network access only. The app limits data shared with its system control to the three cached values listed above. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

Your choices

Before Remainy starts Codex or contacts OpenAI, it asks for consent and explains which information is sent, who receives it, and that Makepad does not receive it. You may choose Not Now and use the clearly marked Sample Data preview without signing in. You can stop live processing by signing out and quitting Remainy. You can remove Remainy and its system-control placements at any time. OpenAI account holders can review OpenAI's Marketing Privacy choice in their OpenAI account settings.

Changes to this policy

Makepad may update this policy when Remainy's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top identifies the latest version. A materially changed policy will be published at this URL before or with the corresponding app update.
