Remainy Support

Requirements

• An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later
• An existing ChatGPT account with access to Codex usage information
• Internet access for sign-in and usage refreshes
• macOS 26 or later for Control Center and system menu-bar placement

The main Remainy window works on macOS 13 and later. The system control is available only on macOS 26 and later. OpenAI determines account eligibility and whether usage information is available.

Sign in

1. Open Remainy from Applications.
2. Choose Sign In with ChatGPT.
3. On first use, review the OpenAI connection disclosure and choose Connect to OpenAI. Choosing Not Now keeps the Codex runtime stopped.
4. Follow the one-time device-code instructions on OpenAI's website in your browser.
5. Return to Remainy after authorization. Your account and usage limits should appear automatically.

Remainy does not create a Makepad account. Authentication is handled by the bundled OpenAI Codex runtime and OpenAI. Never send a password, device code, or access token to Makepad support.

Preview without signing in

Choose Preview Sample Data from the signed-out or connecting screen, then confirm the preview. Remainy displays clearly marked fictional usage without making an authentication or usage request. The sample system-control value expires after 30 minutes and is removed when you choose Exit Preview or quit Remainy. Previewing never replaces your last genuine usage snapshot.

Add the system control on macOS 26 or later

Open Control Center, choose Edit Controls, find Remainy, and add it to Control Center, the menu bar, or both. Remove it through the same system interface. Remainy intentionally has no placement controls in its app window.

• Menu bar: clicking Remainy opens the compact Quick Menu.
• Control Center: clicking Remainy opens the full app window.
• Both locations: each copy keeps the behavior for its own location.

macOS controls the number and arrangement of placements and decides whether the menu bar has enough room to show text next to the control. Remainy supplies its current percentage but cannot override the system's space-management choice. If duplicate copies are present, remove the extras through Control Center > Edit Controls.

Understanding the percentage

Remainy can display more than one Codex usage window. The headline and system control use the lowest remaining percentage so the most constrained active limit is visible first. Open the app or Quick Menu to see every available usage window and its reset time.

Refresh timing

Remainy requests fresh usage about once every 60 seconds while it is running. Choose Refresh Now in the app or Quick Menu for an immediate request.

The system control uses the latest locally cached snapshot. A snapshot older than five minutes is labeled as cached. Open Remainy and refresh if the control shows Open app, Sign in, Checking…, or an old cached value.

Troubleshooting

The control remains on “Checking…” or “Open app”

1. Open Remainy and confirm that usage appears in the main window.
2. Choose Refresh Now and wait for the request to finish.
3. If prompted, sign in again.
4. Open Control Center > Edit Controls, remove Remainy, then add it again.
5. If an older development build was installed, quit all copies of Remainy, remove its controls, restart the Mac, launch the current build once, and add the control again.

Clicking opens the wrong interface

Remove every Remainy copy through Control Center > Edit Controls, launch the current app once, and add the control again. A menu-bar copy opens the Quick Menu; a Control Center copy opens the app window. Keyboard or accessibility activation may open the app window when macOS does not provide enough placement context.

No percentage appears in the menu bar

Open Remainy and refresh to confirm that a current percentage is available. macOS can collapse a control to its compact symbol when menu-bar space is limited. Removing other menu-bar items may give the system room to show the percentage.

Usage does not refresh

Confirm that the Mac is online, then choose Refresh Now. If the session expired, sign out and complete sign-in again. OpenAI service availability and account eligibility can also affect whether usage data is returned.

The displayed usage differs from another OpenAI surface

First choose Refresh Now and compare the named usage window and reset time. Different surfaces may refresh at different moments. Remainy displays the usage information returned to the bundled Codex runtime and does not calculate an account allowance independently.

Sign out and privacy

Choose Sign Out in the app to end the session managed by Remainy and clear the shared usage snapshot. Read the Remainy Privacy Policy for details about local storage and OpenAI processing.
